H-E-B recently announced eight school districts and five early childhood facilities throughout Texas as finalists in the 22nd annual H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards program. This year, H-E-B will award a total of $90,000 to these finalists ($5,000 each), and all finalists will go on to compete for even greater cash prizes at the statewide level in May.
Pasadena Independent School District (Pasadena ISD) is one of five Texas finalists selected in the Large District division.This honor is based on the district's commitment to student achievement through innovative programs, parent and community involvement and professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators.
“We are proud to receive this recognition as it proves once again we are an incredible district and community.” said Superintendent Dr. DeeAnn Powell. “Our board, administration, and campus faculties work hard to provide the best possible education for our students.”
Powell added that if Pasadena ISD reigns victorious in the competition, a small committee of district stakeholders will be made to decide how to best utilize the funds.
To determine statewide winners, a panel of judges tour each finalist’s campus to engage with administration, staff, parents, and community members. Winners will be announced at the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards ceremony on Sunday, May 5, at the Marriott Marquis in Houston. The winning large district will receive $100,000; the winning small district receives $50,000; the winning early childhood facility will receive $25,000; and if selected–one or more school boards will receive up to a total of $25,000.
