Four schools named state 'high performing' campuses

Four Pasadena ISD elementary schools were named among the state’s high performing schools by the National Center for Educational Achievement.

Atkinson Elementary and Turner Elementary were recognized for their increasing writing scores, while South Houston Elementary and Young Elementary were honored for their rising scores in math.

“This honor is a tribute to all of the hard work and dedication by the teachers and staff at these campuses,” said Dr. Kirk Lewis, Pasadena ISD superintendent.

Every year, the National Center for Educational Achievement identifies consistently higher performing schools in many states across the country. The Pasadena schools were recognized by the NCEA because of their outstanding performance across multiple grades and years.

In the fall of 2008, Atkinson and Turner elementary school’s were named exemplary campuses by the Texas Education Agency for their scores on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) assessment tests. The TEA also spotlighted South Houston Elementary and Young as state recognized campuses.

The National Center for Educational Achievement is the national sponsor of Just for the Kids (JFTK), which provides school, district, and other education leaders with essential system performance and best practice information they need to make sound decisions.
