The month of January not only marks the beginning of a new year
– it is also School Board Recognition Month.
Pasadena ISD and other districts around the state will use this
opportunity to show their appreciation and increase
understanding of the critical role elected boards of education
play in their local schools and communities.
Members of the Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees are Marshall
Kendrick, president; Vickie Morgan, vice president; Jerry Speer,
secretary; Frank Braden, assistant secretary; Carmen Orozco,
member; Fred Roberts, member and Nelda Sullivan, member.
“The needs of our students are the most
critical factor considered in every decision made by the board,”
said Dr. Kirk Lewis, Pasadena ISD superintendent. “It is their
heart for children that make them a group of very special
people. Their entire focus is to do what’s always best for
kids.”
In August 2008, the Pasadena ISD trustees were named one of five
Texas Honor Boards by the Texas Association of School
Administrators. The board was also named Region 4’s Outstanding
School Board of the Year last year. The same group of Pasadena
board members received Region 4’s top award and was named one of
five Texas Honor Boards in 2003. The Board was also recognized
with the same honors in 1991 and 1978.
“There are three kinds of people…those who make things happen,
those who watch things happen, and those who ask what happened.
Clearly, the Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees are people who as a
team make things happen,” said Dr. Bill McKinney, executive
director of Region 4.
