South Houston Intermediate School has been
named 2009’s National Model School by the International Center
of Leadership in Education (ICLE).
Under the leadership of Principal Laura
Gomez and her staff, South Houston received the award because of
their continuing strides of student achievement of the past
three years.
“This is a great honor and a tribute to all
of the dedication and hard work of the teachers and students at
South Houston Intermediate,” said Dr. Kirk Lewis, Pasadena ISD
superintendent.
South Houston Intermediate is the second
Pasadena campus to receive the National Model School award. Sam
Rayburn High School was honored with the award two years ago.
The award comes on the heels of Pasadena
ISD being named ICLE’s National Model School District in May
2009.
The ICLE recognized the district and
campuses like South Houston Intermediate for their ongoing
efforts to reform the educational program in Pasadena ISD to
reflect higher standards and greater rigor in its instruction
throughout the system, which is the intent of the district’s
Expectation Graduation initiative.
