Students named finalists in
"Do the Write Thing" challenge

Six Pasadena ISD students have been named school finalists in the Do the Write Thing challenge sponsored by the National Campaign to Stop Violence.

More than 40,000 students from 500 middle schools participated in the contest that gives middle school students an opportunity to examine the impact of youth violence on their lives. Through classroom discussions and writings, students communicate what they think should be done to reduce student violence while committing to do something about the problem.

The Pasadena ISD school finalists are Brittany Gilchrest and Aaron Lombrana of Bondy Intermediate, Chrystiana Hernandez and Luis Umana of Challenger School, and Valeria Vazquez and Oscar Benevides of Southmore Intermediate.

The students will be recognized with school finalists from other districts at a May 16 reception at Minute Maid Park in Houston. At the reception, the names of 50 national finalists will be announced. Those 50 will go to Washington, D.C., for a national recognition ceremony in July.
