Pasadena Memorial High School’s
“Shattered Dreams” program will take place March 9-10 at the
high school, 4410 Crenshaw.One of
the major activities of the program is a staged two-car,
alcohol-related fatality accident at the intersection of
Seminole and Crenshaw at 8:45 a.m., March 9, in front of the
school involving student volunteers who are made up as crash
victims. Sounds of the accident, the call to 911, voices of law
enforcement and emergency responders will be played over the
school’s public address system.
The comprehensive two-day program
involves several activities that educate youth by dramatizing
the problems associated with drinking and driving. According to
PMHS Shattered Dreams coordinator Barbara Jimenez, the event is
planned by both community members and school personnel to show
students how their dreams and those of their families and others
can be shattered as a result of poor choices.
Assemblies at 8 a.m. and 9:15 a.m.
on March 10 will include motivating speeches by participants,
their parents and community leaders. The assembly will include
a mock funeral for the "victim" of the crash. Throughout the
event, teachers will have educational materials regarding
drinking and driving to use in their classrooms.
