Board approves Feb. 16 as instructional
make-up day for Hurricane Ike

The Pasadena Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the administration’s recommendation to designate Feb. 16, 2009 as a make-up day for students due to Hurricane Ike.

Originally, Feb. 16 was scheduled as a staff development day for instructional staff. Trustees approved the measure at their regular October meeting.

Due to the hurricane and damage that ensued, students in the district were not in attendance for 11 consecutive school days. The Texas Education Agency waived the first 10 days and stated that districts were not required to make up those days.

The proposal was studied by the administration and was reviewed by the District Education Committee. The members of the DEC were in consensus that the make-up day was needed.
