Dobie High School’s National Forensic League
Chapter has earned the Leading Chapter Award in the East Texas
District.
The coveted award, based on student participation, is the highest honor NFL can bestow upon a chapter. Dobie speech teacher and NFL sponsor Trish Boudra was also recognized for her relentless dedication to her students which was reflected by her 744 members and degrees over the past 36 years. In related news, 31 Dobie debaters went East on Beltway 8 to compete at Deer Park High/South Campus against 21 other schools. Twenty-six Dobie entries advanced to out-rounds with 10 of the entries making it to the final round. Advancing debaters included: Rhiana Anthony, in Novice Lincoln-Douglas debate, went three wins and one loss in the four preliminary rounds. She was eliminated in the quarterfinal round. Kim Do and San Nguyen, in Public Forum debate, went four wins and no losses in the preliminary rounds. They won in the semi-final round, but lost in the finals round to Houston Lamar. Advancing to semi-finals of individual events were: In Foreign Extemp speaking – Kim Do, Sarah Taqvi, Brenda Tran, San Nguyen, and Linh Nguyen In Prose Interpretation – Stephanie Nguyen, Sarah Taqvi, Sarah Eapen, Rachel Hernandez, Jana Nguyen, and Brenda Tran In Impromptu Speaking – Kevin Rodriguez and Shekeyla Caldwell In Dramatic Interpretation – Erandi Trevino In Original Oratory – Shekeyla Caldwell, Alexandra Zayas, Tramanh Hoang, Julio Gonzales, and Nesa Mohebpour Advancing to the final rounds and receiving awards were: Teresa Greene and Destiny Bellamy placed 5th in the duet final’s round Tramanh Hoang and Jacob Schaafs placed 1st in the duo final’s round Rachel Hernandez placed 5th in the prose interpretation final’s round Jana Nguyen placed 1st in the prose interpretation final’s round Kevin Rodriguez placed 4th in impromptu speaking Erandi Trevino placed 6th in dramatic interpretation Shekeyla Caldwell placed 5th in original oratory Tramanh Hoang placed 1st in original oratory |
