Sonnenblick spoke with students at Bondy Intermediate, Beverly Hills Intermediate and Rick Schneider Middle School. The author told students how, as a teacher, he tried to find a book for a student with a very sick sibling. When he could not find the book, he simply wrote one to help the student through that difficult time. “I think it made them see an author in real life as a real person,” said Jennifer McGee, Bondy Intermediate librarian. Sonnenblick is the Lone Star award winning author of “Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pies.” He won the award for a second time with “Notes from the Midnight Driver.” Both stories are written from a middle school boy’s point of view and use humor to capture students’ attention while dealing with serious issues at the same time. |
