How do I apply for the PISD PD?

Qualified applicants are solicited and encouraged to submit an on-line application to the Human Resources Department of Pasadena ISD.  These applications are held until needed.  When a vacancy occurs, the Police Department collects the applications from Human Resources and contacts the applicants.  Applicants are advised of the date and time of the entrance examination.  Following the examination, successful applicants are screened, interviewed, polygraphed, and scheduled for a review board.  The review board forwards recommendations to the Administrative Staff for employment.

What kind of crime occurs on PISD campuses?

The State of Texas adopted the FBI Uniform Crime Report as its official statewide crime report in 1976.  This report is based on uniform classifications and procedures of reporting.  This report is intended to measure the extent, fluctuation, distribution, and nature of crime through the collection of data on the seven serious Crime Index Offenses: Murder, Rape, Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Burglary, Larceny, and Auto Theft.

Is there gang activity?

The Pasadena Independent School District Police Department first noticed the influence of gang activity in the school district in 1989.  Previously no signs of gang graffiti were visible in the district.  Drive by shootings were seldom heard of in the community. Our officers work diligently to control gang activity, however a history of activity is provided below.

1989 - Local street gangs first developed in our high schools and were active at this level for about 2 years.

1991 - Intermediate level students began to be influenced by gang activity and the activity was observed at the high school and intermediate school levels for about 2 more years. More high school girls were noticed participating in gang activity.

1992 - The first signs of elementary students involved in gang activity were surfacing. Students were being influenced by older siblings and recruiting at the elementary level was beginning.

1993 - Gang activity in the District has reached its highest level and pro-active measures are being implemented.

1994 - The School Board mandated that all faculty and staff members of the district attend a two hour gang awareness seminar conducted by the Pasadena Independent School District Police Department.

1995 - The School Board enacted a policy against gang activity and zero tolerance toward drugs and weapons.  Gang awareness training and a uniform dress code has been effective in minimizing gang activities in our schools.

Currently, most of the gang recruiting is done with the intermediate grade level age students.  High school level students are free to make the decision to join a gang, as opposed to being recruited.

Larger Active Gangs include: IC - Insane Crips, LK - Latin Kings, LM - Little Mexico, PH - Pasadena Homies, RA - Ruthless Assassins, SEC - Southeast Crips, and SSP - Sunset Players

2005 - Adjustments to the on-going training programs are made accordingly as they relate to gang activities in our schools.

2005 - "Blood Style Gangs" emerged for the first time, along with the unrest among the new arriving students from Louisiana who had fled from the flood waters.  A resurgence of gang activity was noted in our schools.  PISD Police Officers, in concert with the Gang Task Force of the Pasadena Police Department, have been successful in suppressing gang activities in our schools and communities.  As a result, gang activities have declined as we remain proactive in our approach to identifying and responding to the changes in our schools and communities.

2006 - The PISD Police Department continues to providing education and training for our Officers and employees of the District as we maintain our goal of keeping our schools safe.
