May 02, 2007

PISD Police Officers Association announced the awarding of nine (9) scholarships totaling $7,500.  This figure is an increase of $1,500. over the awards from last year. 

    Receiving $1,000. scholarships were:  From Pasadena Memorial High School; Noel Lawrence, Britney          Ramirez, Royce Medina, and Rebecca Harris.  From Pasadena High School; Lori Velasquea, and from Sam Rayburn High School, Roxanne Ledezma.  

     Receiving $500. scholarships were:  From  Sam Rayburn High School, Michael Ann Ebbecke and April Sanchez.  From Pasadena Memorial High School, Shane Neal. 

     We congratulate each of the recipients, and salute the PISD PD Association for their outstanding contribution to the success of our students.

The Texas School District Police Chief's Association concluded their annual conference at the NASA Hilton, Clear Lake.  Assistant Chief Troy Harrison was re-elected to a second term as 1st Vice President.  Chief C. L. Ellis did not run for re-election as President of the Association, and was appointed as a Regional Director of Region 2.

 

June 10-15, 2007

The Texas Police Athletics Foundation (www.texaspolicegames.org) conducted their annual Police/K-9 OIympics in the Galveston/Houston/Pasadena area.  A total of fourteen (14) teams competed in the narcotic portion of the games.  Officer Bagwell and K-9 Brutus were awarded a Silver Medal for second place in the overall detection of Marihuana/Cocaine Odors, and a Silver Medal for second place in the detection of Marihuana/Cocaine Odors in vehicles.  We are proud of their placement in this event and their accomplishments in keeping our schools drug free.

The PISD PD Association participated in an open house at Stubbs Harley Davidson on Telephone Road in Houston.  The Association cooked sausage that was provided by Stubbs.  The Association collected about $900.00 in tips for their participation and good attitudes.

Officer Michael Baker left the Department to accept a position with a municipal department in the area.

 

September 29, 2007

The PISD PD Association participated in an open house at Monument Harley Davidson on Beltway 8 in Pasadena..  The Association cooked sausage that was provided by Stubbs.  The Association collected about $900.00 in tips for their participation and wonderful attitudes.

 

October 13, 2007

The PISD PD Association cooking team, "Bad Pigs" participated in a Bar-B-Q cook-off sponsored by the City of Shore Acres.  There were about 15 teams who cooked in the competition.  Our team, "Bad Pigs" were awarded 2nd place and a nice trophy for their bar-b-q ribs.  Congratulations to those who represented the Association in this venture:  Garza, Russell, McMahan, Barrera, Grice, Torres, and Newton.

 

November 15-17, 2007

The Chamber of Commerce again hosted the Invitational Basketball Tournament to benefit the PISD Scholarship Foundation.  A large number of our Officers volunteered their time and effort toward the success of this benefit.  PISD PD Officers volunteered in excess of 450 hours of security for these events.  This equated to a gift of $16,664.99 from the PISD PD Officers.  Thank each of you for your positive attitude as you contributed your time and effort.

 

December 15, 2007

Our annual Christmas Dinner was held at the Steak & Ale Restaurant at Almeda.  Twenty-seven attended and enjoyed the evening.

 

January 22, 2008

Pasadena ISD Police Department was awarded a grant in the amount of $250,000. from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention to establish an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force responsible for responding to online child exploitation in Texas. 

 

The ICAC Task Force is a national network of 59 multi-agency law enforcement organizations that investigate such crimes.  The program was developed in response to the increasing number of children and teenagers using the internet, the proliferation of child pornography and the heightened online activity by sexual predators searching for illicit contact with underage victims.

 

The ICAC Unit at Pasadena ISD PD is responsible for the investigation of crimes in the eastern part of Texas.  There are only two other ICAC units in Texas -- The Attorney General's Office in Austin, and Dallas PD.

 

Pasadena ISD PD is the only ISD Police Department in the Nation that has been selected to head an ICAC Unit.  This Unit will be staffed by Detective Matthew Gray and Detective Tuan Pham.

 

January 22, 2008

Officer Arnold Magana was appointed to the position of Detective to fill the vacancy created when Detective Gray moved into the ICAC Task Force.

 

January 31, 2008

Michael Y'Barbo joined our Department.  He brings seven years of police experience from the City of Deer Park, and he also taught at Pasadena High School for one year. 

 

February 11, 2008

Lonnie Smith, II, joined our Department.  He was previously a Dispatcher and an Officer for Precinct 1 in Harris County.

 

February 12, 2008

Larry Bogany joined our Department.  He previously worked in the corporate environment.  This is his first commission in law enforcement.

 

April 15, 2008

Officer Michael Newton resigned to work in the private sector.

Officer Jose Guzman resigned to accept a position with another law enforcement agency.

 

May 02, 2008

Officer Joe Barrera left the Department to work in the private sector.

 

May 27, 2008

The PISD Police Officers Association awarded $7,000. in scholarships during the regular meeting of the Board Of Trustees.  Recipients of the 2008 scholarships are as follows:

     Dobie High School:  Ariel Reetz, $1,000., and Linzie Ezzell, $1,000.

     Pasadena High School:  John Paul Vega, $1,000., and Vanessa Zamarron, $1,000.

     Pasadena Memorial High:  Kayla Taylor, $1,000., and Randy Young, $500.

     Sam Rayburn High:  Monique Martinez, $1,000.

     South Houston High:  Keegan Savell, $500.

These scholarships were funded by the various fund raising events conducted by the Police Officers Association, on their own time, and physical labor.  We proudly salute these women and men for this noble effort.

Officer Joe Bob Patrick was honored with a reception celebrating his twenty-one years of service to the Pasadena Independent School District.  The event was well attended.  His last day of service will be July 31, 2008.  We wish him health and God Speed!  He will be missed.

Assistant Chief Troy Harrison left the Department to pursue his company.

Sergeant Dan Masera completed twenty years with the District and was honored with a reception.  He was one to get things done, who knew who everyone was, and where everything was hidden.  Dan was active in many different aspects of the Department and will be missed -- many times, every day.

 

August 11, 2008

Officer Dusty Blackburn joined the PISD PD on August 11, 2008.  He brings two years experience from a Constables Department in Galveston County.

 

August 12, 2008

Officer Claudia Lara joined the PISD PD on August 12, 2008.  She brings experience from the corporate environment.

 

August 13, 2008

Officer Martin Mendez joined the PISD PD on August 13, 2008.  He also comes from the corporate world with extensive experience in computer technology.

 

September 23, 2008

Officer Oscar Pena joined the PISD PD.  He was an Officer at League City for eight (8) years, the USMC for four (4) years, and toured Baghdad for two (2) years with Blackwater. 

 

September 24, 2008

Captain H. J. Nassif was promoted to Assistant Chief.

 

September 24, 2008

Officer Matthew Gray was promoted to Lieutenant in the ICAC Unit.

 

September 25, 2008

Eleven (11) Officers interviewed for the position of Sergeant.

 

September 26, 2008

Officer Richard Phillips was promoted to the position of Sergeant.

 

September 29, 2008
