PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION

The school nurse or, in the absence of the school nurse, the principal or designee shall be authorized to administer prescription medication to a student, provided that:

          1. The school has received a written request to administer the 
              prescription medication from the parent, legal guardian or other person having 
              legal control over the student.

2. The medication is prescribed by a United States physician 
    and issued by a United States pharmacy.

          3. The medication is current, is in original container and is properly 
              labeled.

Prescription medication shall be delivered to the clinic and picked up from the clinic by the parent, guardian or other responsible adult. Medication shall not be transported to or from school by a student. Unless authorized by the school nurse, there shall be no more than one week’s supply of medication in the school.

EXCEPTION

In unusual circumstances when the above requirements cannot be met before the medication is due, the nurse or other designated school employee may administer the first dose of a prescription medication with the oral permission of the parent and/or physician.

NON-PRESCRIPTION
MEDICATION
Non-prescription (over-the-counter) medication shall not be brought to or used at school by a student. District employees shall not dispense non-prescription (over-the-counter) medication to students.
