OPPORTUNITY FOR EXPERIENCE AT MTI 2024

The McDonald’s Texas Invitational (MTI) High School Basketball Tournament is seeking  Basketball Communications Interns to assist our Public Relations (PR) team throughout the tournament. This role provides a unique opportunity to contribute to the event and gain real world experience by supporting an active PR department with essential daily content operations and marketing. 

 

 

 

The MTI features 48 boys teams and 32 girls teams and is one of the largest events of its kind in the country. This community-wide event is more than just a high school basketball tournament as it showcases the positive aspects of the city, its businesses and the school district. All net proceeds from the tournament are donated to the education foundations to sponsor mini-grants benefiting the teachers and students of Pasadena and Deer Park. As of this date, the MTI has donated more than $3 million in support of our local districts.

Please Note: This is an unpaid intern position.

TOURNAMENT DETAILS:

Dates: November 21 - 23, 2024

Time: 8am to 7pm

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.

Perks: Promotional items will be provided.

Background Check Required.

 

POSITION FUNCTION:

 

  • Update and maintain statistical information related to the tournament, in coordination with other team members.
  • Compile game highlights and content of interest for tournament-related publications and communications.
  • Monitor and track tournament-related media coverage
  • Co-author social media content regarding tournament updates, team announcements, and other special event announcements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Proficient computer skills, including Google Drive, and various Social Media Platforms.
  • Strong writing skills, including editing and proofreading.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-directed, with the ability to work independently without supervision.
  • Comfortable interfacing with Tournament leads, coaching staff, and players.
  • Organized and capable of working effectively in a demanding environment.
  • Excellent project management and time management skills.
  • Flexibility to work evening, weekend, and holiday hours as required by the tournament schedule.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be enrolled in a Jr. or 4-year college or have a bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, or related field.
  • Experience working in a sports team or a similar public relations environment is preferred.
