WHY THREE PROPOSITIONS?

Pasadena ISD is complying with changes made in 2019 to section 45.003 of the Texas Education Code. It requires school districts to divide bond elections into separate ballot propositions based on what is being financed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Just as homeowners borrow money in the form of a mortgage to finance the purchase of a home, a school district borrows money in the form of bonds to finance the construction of new schools and other capital projects. Both are repaid over time. A school district is required by law to seek approval from voters in the form of a bond election in order to issue bonds.

  • The lifespan of a building, technology, athletics fields or instruments does not last forever. A bond helps a district maintain its schools and continue to provide the very best environment and tools for students.

  • Yes. The Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to call a bond election after receiving a formal recommendation from the district’s Future Facilities and Planning Committee. The goal of the Future Facilities and Planning Committee is to ensure that all students have access to modern technology, classrooms, quality programs and educational tools and resources and have the opportunity to learn in a safe environment. The committee is composed of numerous community stakeholders who met for several months to develop a comprehensive long-range facilities improvement plan that addresses the needs of the district and the wishes of the community and its taxpayers.

  • With the goal of impacting every school and every student in the district, the Future Facilities and Planning Committee considered every school and facility in Pasadena ISD. The bond package includes improvements for every campus in the district.

  • On February 15, the Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously during a special called board meeting to call a bond referendum with three propositions on the May 7, 2022 ballot.

  • Proposition C proposes renovating and modernizing several athletic facilities, adding turf fields, new scoreboards, and LED lighting. Additionally, Proposition A proposes new instruments and music equipment for grades K-12 and some auditorium repairs and renovations.

  • Pasadena ISD taxes are frozen for homeowners 65 or older who have properly filed with the Harris County Tax Office, therefore approval of this bond would not result in an increase above the frozen amount.

  • Pasadena ISD is complying with new Texas legislation, which requires school districts to have separate propositions for certain projects such as athletic upgrades and technology improvements. The ballot will contain three propositions, including Proposition A, Proposition B and Proposition C.

  • Yes. Voters should record their vote in each of the three bond propositions on the ballot.

  • No. The bonds do not cost the district anything until they are sold. Voter approval is simply an authorization for the district to issue bonds. Bonds would be sold in the future as needed to fund the projects.

  • Please visit the Voting Information-Ballot Language page for information about each bond proposition that will be included on the May 7 ballot.

  • Any registered voter who lives within the Pasadena ISD boundaries is eligible to vote. Additionally, any voter whose registration is based on their current Pasadena ISD residence is eligible to vote in this bond election.

  • The deadline to apply for voter registration is April 7, 2022  in order to vote in the May 7, 2022 election.
