Marla Nickelson

District Specialist, MS Mathematics

Marla Nickelson is a Mathematics Instructional Specialist for the Pasadena Independent School District. She oversees curriculum and professional development for the Blended Learning models for 5th/6th grade mathematics teachers in PISD. In this role, Marla works with Mathematics Campus Content Specialists, as well as, Campus Coaches and teachers. As a team, our goal is to ensure students are getting the best possible experience through an equitable, streamlined curriculum. She also leads training for teachers and leaders across the district.

Over the last 19 years, Marla has served as a teacher, campus coach, and district specialist. Current district initiatives she is working on include work in individualized learning, blended learning, curriculum development, writing across the curriculum, promotion and growth of the PAC mathematics program, and student-centered classrooms. Marla holds a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Management from the University of Houston - central and an M. Ed in Administrative Leadership from Concordia University. Marla’s mathematical journey in education is driven by her belief that everyone can successfully learn and apply mathematics. She is focused on initiatives that contribute to teacher growth and student achievement through collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
