Nelda Sullivan and her family have been residents of Pasadena since 1958.  Since moving to the area, she has been active in numerous community, civic, and service projects.  A retired banker, she served in an executive capacity for over thirty years. She was elected to the board of trustees for Pasadena Independent School District in 1993 and has been re-elected to consecutive terms since that time.   She has held numerous positions on the board and is the first to acknowledge that she is delighted to be a part of the 19th largest school district in Texas and to be a part of the great things happening in public education.

Nelda is past president of the board of trustees for HCA Healthcare Southeast and presently serves as a certified member of the board of trustees.  Her involvement in civic and community activities includes past leadership roles in the South Pasadena Rotary Club, Soroptimist International of Pasadena, Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, The American Heart Association, the Pasadena Police Academy Advisory Board, The Pasadena Philharmonic Society, a volunteer for Boy Scouts of America (all three grandsons are Eagle Scouts}, Pasadena-Hadano, and Japan Sister City Association, serving as a host family on numerous occasions. She is a graduate of the Pasadena Citizens Police Academy and an active member of Sunset United Methodist Church.

Sullivan has been honored as Citizen of the Year by the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and as a Woman of Excellence by the Houston Federation of Business Women.  She was also awarded a congressional certificate by the 29th Congressional District of the United States House of Representatives and by the City of Pasadena for outstanding community service.  She was named Volunteer of the Year by the American Heart Association. Additionally, she is a Paul Harris Fellow.  Honored by the school district, a new middle school serving students in grades 5-6, located at 1212 Queens Road, in Pasadena was named the Nelda Sullivan Middle School.  

Even with the honors and accolades, family takes top priority in Nelda's life. She is a widow, (Charles passed away in 2010) the mother of three children, grandmother (MiMi) to seven and great grandmother (Gran MiMi) to sixteen.  Her hobbies include quilting, gardening, and reading.
