🔍 How Pasadena ISD Reviews and Approves Digital Instructional Materials

Pasadena ISD is committed to ensuring that all digital instructional materials used in our classrooms are safe, effective, and aligned with state standards. To support this commitment, we follow a rigorous Digital Resource Evaluation Process (DREP) that involves multiple departments working together to review and approve each tool before it is used with students.

✅ What Is the DREP?

The DREP is a multi-step, collaborative process that includes:

  • Instructional Review: Curriculum and instruction teams evaluate whether the resource aligns with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and supports student learning goals.
  • Data Privacy & Security Review: Technology Services and Compliance teams assess whether the resource meets federal and state privacy laws, including FERPACOPPAHB 1605, and the SCOPE Act (HB 18/1812).
  • Legal & Accessibility Review: Legal and special services teams ensure that the resource complies with accessibility standards and district policies.

Only resources that pass all stages of this review are added to our Approved Digital Resources List.

About the Digital Resource Evaluation Process (DREP)

Pasadena ISD is committed to protecting student data while providing access to high-quality digital learning tools. The Digital Resource Evaluation Process (DREP) is the district’s formal review system for evaluating educational software. Every tool submitted for use in classrooms is reviewed for:

  • Data privacy and security (aligned with FERPA, COPPA, and Texas NDPA standards)
  • Curriculum alignment with TEKS and instructional goals
  • Technical compatibility with district systems
  • Redundancy checks to avoid duplicating existing tools

Only software that meets these standards is added to the district’s Approved Digital Resources List, which is published and updated regularly.
