Pasadena ISD Libraries & Instrucitonal Materials selects two current librarians each year to receive the Librarian of the Year award. Our goal is to recognize an outstanding librarian, one elementary and one secondary (MS, IS, HS), whose expertise, practice and vision make a significant contribution to the success of the students on their campus and beyond.  Nominations are collected in the spring semester and winners are announced at the regularly scheduled librarian meeting held in May. A committee of previous LOYs along with district administrators will use a rubric to score the submitted videos. PISD is so fortunate to have so many wonderful people serving as campus librarians, and we hope that you will join us in celebrating them by submitting a nomination.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

To be eligible a campus librarian should:

  • Be in a full-time librarian position at the elementary level (PreK – 4) or secondary level (5-12) in a Texas Education Agency (TEA) approved program at the time of the award.

  • Be certified or endorsed in School Library by TEA.

  • Be recognized as an outstanding teacher/librarian in all professional areas.

  • Exhibit distinguished leadership service to the profession and the community.

We sincerely appreciate the incredible work of our campus librarians in PISD and encourage you to join us in recognizing their outstanding contributions by submitting a nomination keeping in mind the 6 strands found in the Librarian Evaluation Instrument:

  • Information Literacy

  • Inquiry

  • Reading

  • Digital Learning

  • Safe & Nurturing Environment

  • Leadership

Librarians that have been nominated will be notified and asked to submit a video (not less than 5 minutes and not longer than 10 minutes).

The video will need to include the following:

  • About you

  • Committee involvement outside of the campus, including district, state, and national levels

  • Describe a project or initiative in which you have been involved that contributed to the improvement of the overall school culture this school year.

  • What was your role?

  • How did you involve others?

  • What was the outcome of the project?

  • Specific ways in which you connect your students and the community

  • Specific ways in which you are leading from your library

  • New ideas you would implement to move the library program forward at the campus and/or district level
