HOF Class of 2015
Randy McEachern, a talented quarterback from Dobie High School, etched his name into Texas Longhorn football legend as an unlikely hero in 1977. After starting the season as the fourth-string quarterback, he was thrust into the spotlight during the pivotal game against rival Oklahoma, leading the team to a stunning 13-6 upset victory.
His improbable rise sparked an unbeaten regular season and a Southwest Conference title for the Longhorns, ultimately reaching the National Championship game. During this memorable year, McEachern passed for 906 yards and eight touchdowns.
Returning for his senior season, he guided the Longhorns to a 9-3 record and a Sun Bowl victory. McEachern's legacy includes co-ownership of the school record for touchdown passes in a single game (four), a mark he tied in 1977. He was later inducted into the Longhorn Hall of Honor in 2007.
Before his collegiate career, McEachern led Dobie High School to its first district title in just its fifth year of varsity competition in 1973. He was named the district's offensive MVP and served as captain of the golf team.
