John Holmes was a nationally recognized distance runner from South Houston High School during the 1980s. He led his cross-country team to district and regional championships and won eight district and regional titles in track, including a state championship in the 800m run in 1986. After high school, he ran for the University of Arkansas and was inducted into the Pasadena ISD Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014.
