Bert Coan Scholarship

Bert Coan Memorial Scholarship

Generally considered to be the most honored player in Pasadena football history, Bert Coan was equally heralded for his track exploits while at Pasadena High. In 2014 he was inducted in the Pasadena ISD Athletics Hall of Fame, and in 2015 he was inducted in the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame. Following his death in 2022 the Hall of Fame Committee unanimously decided to award a scholarship in his memory to a promising athlete.

The Pasadena ISD Education Foundation shall, for the 2025-2026 school year, select one male and one female senior from among the Pasadena ISD’s five high schools for scholarship awards.


AMOUNT OF SCHOLARSHIP

One scholarship shall be awarded, representing a one-time, non-renewal cash award of $2,500.


ELIGIBILITY:
The scholarship recipient must be a 2026 graduate of a Pasadena ISD high school.*


      • The scholarship recipient must be in good academic and disciplinary standing **
      • Eligible candidates must have completed two (2) concurrent years at a PISD High School.
      • The scholarship recipient must have participated in a UIL sport during the student’s senior year;
or
must have been eligible for participation and would have participated had an injury or a situation beyond the student’s control precluded that participation;
or
must be a student of exceptionally high character who has made a substantial and profoundly beneficial impact on athletic programs at the student’s high school.
      • Preferred scholarship candidates will be those who have actively pursued admission to a tuition-based college or tuition-based career training program.
      • It is not required that a candidate pursue plans to participate in intercollegiate athletics. ***


* The student’s high school counselor may certify a mid-term graduate as eligible if that student meets all other scholarship eligibility requirements.
** As indicated by the Pasadena ISD Code of Conduct and Student Handbook
*** While scoring applications, No Penalty of any kind will be applied to any candidate who does not plan to particpate in college sports.

Deadline to submit is Friday, March 6, 2026.
