Fisher Elementary Awarded Library Makeover and Additional Funding
Fisher Elementary School revealed its newly renovated library during a ribbon cutting ceremony on September 11, 2024, thanks to the generous support of the College Football Playoff Foundation in collaboration with the Houston 2024 Host Committee, Harris County-Houston Sports Authority, and Good Reason Houston.
“This transformation has been a labor of love,” said Principal Blanca Roman, “and a combination of a lot of partners.”
Shortly after the opening statements by Principal Roman and other project partners, Houston Loves Teachers surprised 4th grade teacher Ivonne Guerra with a check for her classroom. Chosen by Principal Roman as a game-changing educator, Guerra received $1,000 to contribute to her learning environment. The surprises did not stop there.
Margaret Frank, College Football Playoff Foundation’s Partnerships Manager, began to express the impact of principals’ work. “Great teachers change lives, but they can’t do that without a fabulous principal leading the charge!” Frank then presented Principal Roman with an additional $1,000 check dedicated to Fisher Elementary.
“The library has always been my favorite place in the entire school, and now it’s even better than before!” Said 4th grade Fisher Elementary student, Faith Wuergler.
The newly renovated library is now open to students, offering a range of new books, furniture, and comfortable spaces designed to foster a love of reading and learning.
