From Classroom to Community Leaders: The Robles Brothers’ Journey with Pasadena ISD

Posted Date: 10/17/24 (2:54 PM)

Pasadena ISD, October 15, 2024 — This month, Pasadena Independent School District proudly features Arturo and Jose Robles in our Alumni Spotlight. We’re thrilled to reconnect with our alumni and learn more about their contributions to our community. Today, we explore the story behind Best Liquidations and its founders.

Where did you attend school in Pasadena ISD and what year did you graduate?

My business partner and brother, Arturo Robles, and I both attended Gardens Elementary, Jackson Intermediate, and Pasadena High School where the pride of Pasadena ISD was instilled in us every time, we started a new school year.

Being a student in Pasadena ISD meant being part of a community that valued education, personal growth, and support. The district’s commitment to fostering a nurturing environment was evident in the way teachers and staff interacted with students. Every day, my teachers and administrators taught me invaluable lessons that I still carry with me.

How long has Best Liquidations been open and what made you want to start your own business?

The motivation to become entrepreneurs was deeply rooted in the experiences and lessons we learned from Pasadena ISD. The district instilled in us a sense of accountability, teamwork, and perseverance. These qualities are essential for any entrepreneur, as they help navigate the inevitable challenges and setbacks that come with running a business.

Best Liquidations has been open since June 2020. Our goal was to help professionals and “Do It Yourself” enthusiasts save money on the tools they needed without compromising on quality. Additionally, starting our own business gave us the opportunity to spend more time with family, which was a significant factor in our decision.

What lessons did Pasadena ISD instill in you and how have you used that to get where you are now?

One of the most impactful lessons I learned from Pasadena ISD was accountability. I vividly remember Superintendent Powell, who was my teacher at the old Jackson Intermediate, holding me accountable for my actions and grades. That experience was a real eye-opener and taught me the importance of taking responsibility in everything I do.

Additionally, my brother Arturo and I were both members of the Pasadena Eagle Alliance Marching Band, where we learned the value of teamwork and dependability. These lessons in accountability, teamwork, and reliability have been crucial in helping us build and grow our business. They've guided us in creating a company culture where every team member knows the importance of being responsible and working together to achieve our goals.

Why did you choose to stay in the Pasadena area, and how have you contributed to the community? Can you also share some of the events you’ve participated in for Pasadena ISD schools?

Pasadena is our home. It’s where we’ve raised both of our families and chosen to operate our business. Staying in this community was a natural decision because it’s where our roots are, and we’re deeply committed to giving back to students.

We’re also active partners with The Bridge Over Troubled Waters and The Bridge for Kids, where we’ve donated funds, essential supplies, and playground equipment.

Last December, we arranged for a super stretch Hummer limo to pick up the teens at The Bridge, taking them on a shopping spree to Walmart, followed by pizza and dessert at Bubba’s 33. The event was a huge success and brought a lot of joy to the participants.

This year, we’ve also partnered with the Pasadena ISD Education Foundation to award scholarships to students from five high schools in Pasadena ISD. These scholarships will be presented during their home football games starting October 17th.

With the success you’ve achieved, what are your plans for the future?

Our ultimate goal is to scale our business in a way that enables us to make an even greater positive impact on our community and the lives of our team members. We want to grow not just for the sake of growth, but to expand our ability to give back, create more opportunities, and support those around us.

We believe that sustainable growth is key to long-term success. This means making strategic decisions that not only drive profitability but also consider the environmental and social impact of our operations.

We are committed to adopting sustainable practices, such as reducing waste, sourcing eco-friendly products, and minimizing our carbon footprint. By prioritizing sustainability, we can ensure that our growth benefits both our business and the planet.

What's your favorite part about your job?

Our favorite part about the job is that it’s genuinely fun! We love helping people save money on the tools they need, and it’s incredibly rewarding when customers share compliments or leave glowing reviews about our team.

As an alumnus, what advice would you give to current students or recent graduates?

The key to our success has been consistency and discipline. My advice to current students and recent graduates is to stay true to yourself and your plan, no matter the challenges you face. When you hit rough patches, as we did when we started, it’s important to learn from your mistakes and keep moving forward. Persistence and a positive mindset are crucial—if you stay focused and committed, you will succeed.

The Robles brothers’ story is a shining example of the positive impact that Pasadena ISD has on its students. The district’s focus on personal growth, accountability, and community support prepares students for the challenges of the real world and inspires them to make a positive impact in their communities.
