Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees Names Lone Finalist for Superintendent

Posted Date: 3/06/25 (1:00 AM)

Attention Pasadena ISD,

The Pasadena Independent School District (ISD) Board of Trustees, at its March 5th meeting, named Pasadena ISD Deputy Superintendent Dr. Toni Lopez as the lone finalist for superintendent. By law, the Board must now wait 21 days before voting to hire Dr. Lopez to be the new superintendent for Pasadena ISD. Dr. Lopez is slated to replace Superintendent Dr. DeeAnn Powell who is retiring.

The Board has followed a lengthy process in determining the finalist. In October of 2024, the Board hired Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Executive Search Services to direct the search. TASB consultants met with staff and community groups in December of 2024 to discuss leadership qualities of the new superintendent. The profile developed from these meetings and survey results were the yardstick the Board and consultants used to evaluate the applicants for the position.

The Board is scheduled to vote to offer a contract to Dr. Lopez on March 27, 2025. Dr. Lopez has dedicated 28 years to Pasadena ISD in various capacities, including Teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, Executive Director, Associate Superintendent of Human Resources, and most recently, Deputy Superintendent of Staff and Academic Achievement.
