Pasadena ISD Campuses Shine in Beanstack Reading Culture Award Achievements

Posted Date: 9/03/24 (11:47 AM)

Several Pasadena ISD campuses have been recognized by the reading tracker Beanstack for their outstanding efforts in promoting a reading culture among students during the school year.

Now in its second year, Beanstack introduced three badges to encourage students to log their reading hours through the student portal, offering incentives for both students and schools. Achieving this milestone means the school is continuing to build a strong culture of reading using Beanstack.

As an added incentive and the first step towards fostering a reading culture, is Beanstack’s Igniter Award which offers a $25 Reading Culture Rebate. This rebate, along with a digital badge and certificate, supports and celebrates reading initiatives at each school, with additional rewards based on badge participation.

The Beanstack Reading Culture initiative also includes two other badges of excellence. Pasadena ISD schools with 50% of students actively logging reading minutes or pages receive the Pathfinder badge. The prestigious Reading Culture Trailblazer badge is given to schools with over 75% student reading engagement. Several PISD campuses have received these awards in the past.

All schools listed in this year’s Beanstack Reading Culture are one step closer to earning the Trailblazer badge. This prestigious award comes with a Reading Culture Rebate and a $100 gift card, redeemable at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Papa John’s, Dunkin, Target, or Walmart, to celebrate and encourage student reading engagement throughout the school year.

The district uses Beanstack and other various resources to track and encourage weekly reading challenges to enhance more student reading participation in the district.

In order to collaborate with campus libraries, the district’s Libraries and Instructional Materials department introduced a variety of reading challenges designed to enhance students’ reading habits. These challenges span 6 to 9 weeks and are available for K-12 students.

This year, students can also receive graduation cords for reading over 12,000 pages during their high school career, from grades 9-12, as part of the 2024-2025 reading challenge. The Libraries and Instructional Materials department will also be traveling to award trophies to the K-12 schools with the highest Beanstack engagement during each grading period.

Elementary and middle schools are encouraged to read 75 minutes a week and track their progress, whereas intermediates and high schools are required to read and track a minimum of 50 pages a week to reach the district-wide reading challenges goals
