Pasadena High Senior Caryme Molina Named First Recipient of Alsdorf Family Scholarship

PASADENA, Texas — Pasadena High School senior Caryme Molina was honored last week as the inaugural recipient of the Alsdorf Family Scholarship, a newly established scholarship awarded to recognize student-athletes who demonstrate excellence both in athletics and academics.
The scholarship was presented just before the Eagles’ volleyball game last Friday, surprising Caryme with a moment of recognition that celebrated her dedication to her sport, her studies, and her leadership on and off the court.
Founded by Charles and Donna Alsdorf, the scholarship reflects the family’s deep ties to Pasadena ISD. All four members of the Alsdorf family—Charles, Donna, and their two sons—are proud alumni of the district. Their love of sports and years spent supporting student-athletes inspired them to create a scholarship that would help young athletes continue pursuing their goals beyond high school. Donna Alsdorf is also a familiar face across the district’s athletic community, known for capturing photos of student-athletes and events that showcase the smiles, cheers, and spirit that make Pasadena ISD proud.
“I have stood on many ball fields and courts,” said Donna Alsdorf. “I’ve watched students become awesome athletes all for the love of the game. So for us, we thought it would be a good way to give a student-athlete an opportunity to continue their goals and to ‘still be in the game.’
With this newfound tradition The Alsdorf Family Scholarship will be awarded annually before graduation to a Pasadena ISD student-athlete who exemplifies discipline, sportsmanship, and academic success all throughout their years in high school.
Molina was selected as the first recipient for her consistent effort and passion for volleyball, as well as her strong academic performance. According to Mr. and Mrs. Alsdorf, Caryme’s commitment to her teammates, her respect for opponents, and her ability to balance athletics with academics made her an ideal choice.
“I have witnessed Caryme’s love of the game every time she has stepped on the court,” Mrs. Alsdorf said. “She gives 100% with every serve, dig, and assist. She encourages her teammates and respects her opponents. She’s also an excellent student in class, which is an important combination.”
Caryme’s accomplishments extend far beyond the scholarship. Earlier this season, she became the first player in Pasadena High School history to record 1,000 career kills—a historic milestone that highlights her skill, consistency, and leadership as a senior setter. She also recently announced her verbal commitment to the University of Texas at El Paso, where she has earned a full athletic scholarship. Her achievements on and off the court made her selection for the Alsdorf Family Scholarship a fitting choice.
“I feel really honored because I personally know Miss Alsdorf,” Caryme said. “Just being the first recipient is such a big honor to me, and I can't believe it happened.”
Mrs. Alsdorf noted that her relationship with Caryme’s has grown through regular conversations at Pasadena home games, where they often talk about volleyball and life beyond the court and that made the choice to start the scholarship all worthwhile.
“We wanted to start this scholarship for student-athletes to continue their dreams, their goals, and to stay in the game.”
As the first recipient, Caryme sets the tone for what the Alsdorf Family Scholarship represents: a celebration of student-athletes who lead with heart, discipline, and a love for the game.
