Brown, Allen
HOF Class of 2018
Allan Brown’s legacy in Pasadena ISD is one of both championship coaching and lifelong service to students. A 1936 Pasadena High School graduate, Brown returned to his alma mater after playing at Southwest Texas State and serving in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. As a coach and educator, he guided generations of athletes, most notably track and football star Bert Coan, who led the Eagles to the 1957 state track championship with victories in the sprints, broad jump, and sprint relay. That title remains one of only two state track championships in Pasadena ISD history.
Brown’s impact extended beyond victories on the field. In 1962, at the height of his coaching career, he left Pasadena High to establish a pioneering program for special needs students in Pearland. For the next 13 years, until his passing in 1975, he dedicated himself to training and job placement for students with physical and intellectual challenges, embodying his belief that education should serve all young people.
Brown’s influence touched countless lives—athletes like Carl Choate, Randy Kerbow, David Webb, and John Bryan (later a state championship coach himself) all credited him as a mentor. His name also lives on through the Brown Relays, the Pasadena Invitational track meet he founded in 1957, which continues to stand as one of the district’s signature athletic events.
Allan Brown’s story is one of perseverance, vision, and service—a true Pasadena Eagle who turned athletic triumph into a lifelong mission of impact.
