Wylie, Jeff
HOF Class of 2015
Jeff Wylie, a standout athlete from Pasadena High School, achieved remarkable success in both basketball and track. While an accomplished basketball player, earning District MVP honors as a senior and leading the Eagles to consecutive district titles, his greatest fame came in track and field, specifically the high jump.
As a high school All-American, Wylie made the state meet a four-year staple, setting region and state records along the way. His exceptional talent led him to Baylor University, where he still holds multiple school records in the high jump. He secured four Southwest Conference championships – three indoors and one outdoors in 1991 – with indoor and outdoor marks of 7-2 and 7-4 1/2 respectively.
Wylie's athletic prowess extended beyond college, as he competed on three U.S. national teams. He recorded a career-best jump of 7-6, earning him a spot at the 1996 Olympic trials. Immediately after high school graduation, he also claimed the World Junior Championship title in the high jump.
After his high-jumping career concluded in 1996, Wylie transitioned to professional basketball, playing in Argentina and Brazil. He then moved into high school coaching and currently teaches at Montgomery High School.
