Sam Rayburn High School Opens New Automotive Technology Shop

PASADENA, Texas — Students at Sam Rayburn High School are getting hands-on experience like never before as the school officially opened its new Automotive Technology facility. The state-of-the-art shop is a major investment in Career and Technical Education and is located right near the Texans campus, giving students real-world automotive training in a professional learning environment.
After more than a year of construction, and a temporary relocation to portable classrooms the new facility is now open and already transforming the way students learn automotive skills. Designed to mirror a real-world automotive shop, the space allows students to apply classroom instruction to hands-on repairs and diagnostics, preparing them for industry certifications and high-demand careers.

“This building was well worth the wait,” said automotive technology instructor Mr. French. “Mr. McGuire and I are excited to teach students in a facility that allows for real-world application and gives them the experience they need to succeed beyond high school.”
The new shop is fully equipped to support instruction aligned with Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification, giving students a competitive edge as they pursue careers in automotive technology. With access to industry-grade equipment and tools, students are learning the same skills required in professional repair shops.
The program is strengthened by strong partnerships with postsecondary institutions, including Universal Technical Institute (UTI), WyoTech, and San Jacinto College, which help create seamless pathways for students continuing their education after graduation.

Local and national business partners have also played a key role in the program’s development. NAPA Auto Parts donated many of the tools now housed in the facility, while Snap-on has provided professional training for instructors and students on new equipment.
The opening of the automotive shop marks a significant milestone for Sam Rayburn High School and Pasadena ISD, reinforcing the district’s commitment to workforce readiness and student opportunity.
“Sam Rayburn finally has the facility the students truly deserve,” French said.

With this new addition, Sam Rayburn Texans are not only learning about vehicles, they're gaining skills and some receiving the chance to graduate as a licensed technician that drives futures.
