Graphic Design Tips for Social Media Liaisons

These tips are designed to help you create clear, professional, and engaging flyers and social media graphics for your school’s social media pages.
1. Keep It Clean & Simple
- Avoid overcrowding your graphic with too much text or too many images.
- Focus on one main message per graphic.
- White space is your friend and it helps important information stand out.
2. Use Readable Fonts
- Stick to 1–2 fonts per graphic. One of our most used fonts is Proxima Nova, and it gives a nice clean look.
- Choose clean, easy-to-read fonts (especially for dates and times).
- Avoid decorative or script fonts for important information.
- Make sure text is large enough to read on a phone screen.

3. Prioritize Key Information
For flyers and event graphics, include only what’s essential:
- Event name
- Date
- Time
- Location
- School or organization name
If more details are needed, include them in the caption, not the graphic.

4. Use School Colors & Branding
- Use your school’s official colors whenever possible.
- Avoid using too many colors at once (2–3 is ideal).
- Make sure colors have enough contrast so text is easy to read.
- Our Pasadena ISD Canva account already has campus logos and colors ready for you to use. They can be found under the “Brand” tab.
5. Choose High-Quality Images
- Use clear, high-resolution photos.
- Avoid blurry or pixelated images.
- When possible, use photos from your campus to keep content authentic.
6. Design for Social Media
- Square (1:1) or vertical (4:5) graphics work best for most platforms.
- Graphics that are picture heavy are more likely to grab the attention of your audience.

7. Be Consistent
- Try to use similar styles for recurring posts (events, shoutouts, reminders).
- Consistency helps your page look polished and professional.
8. Proofread Before Posting
- Double-check spelling, dates, and times.
- Make sure names are correct.
- When in doubt, ask someone to review before posting.
Final Tip When it comes to social media graphics, less is more. Clear, simple, and consistent designs perform best and reflect positively on your campus and the district.
